Crested Hawk Eagle Looking for prey movement @ Kabini Backwaters, Nagarhole National Park - June 2015

During a wildlife safari in a sanctuary, by hearing the call of the Crested Hawk Eagle by tracking the call found this majestic bird. They keep a sharp lookout perched bolt upright on a bough amongst the canopy foliage of some high tree standing near a forest clearing. There, they wait for junglefowl, pheasants, hares, and other small animals coming out into the open. The bird then swoops down forcefully, strikes, and bears the prey away in its talons.

Crested Serpent Eagle @ Manamboli Range, Valparai, Anamalai Tiger Reserve, June 2016

This "Crested Serpent Eagle" was sitting on a tree with its wings opened for sunning its feathers after the rain. Bird sunning is the act of spreading out in full sunshine to expose plumage and skin to direct sunlight. When sunning, birds orient themselves to expose the maximum amount of their plumage to the sun.  In cold weather or early in the day, birds sun themselves for warmth by taking advantage of solar radiation. This allows them to maintain their body temperature without expending as much energy from food and it can increase their chances of survival in cold climates or when food is scarce.
